Abstract

This study is the first phase of a series on the limnology of the Pudoc Lagoons in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. It particularly inventoried the edible fish resources and invertebrates found in the two lagoons. Eight invertebrate species were found in Lagoon, four (4) of which were mollusks, and three (3) were arthropods. For Lagoon 2, a total of eight (8) invertebrate species were found, five (S) of which were mollusks, and three (3) were arthropods. On the edible fishes found for both lagoons, a total of eight (8) species were recorded. One remains unidentified as of reporting time. The researchers recommend a follow-up study for a thorough laboratory testing of all the species present to determine the presence of parasites which might have claimed the lives of hundreds of people in the area. Further analysis of the water of the two lagoons should also be done to determine all other endemic organisms and substances.
